{"id":161284,"date":"2025-05-04T12:05:30","date_gmt":"2025-05-04T11:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/police-detain-three-officers-over-death-of-suspect-in-kebbi"},"modified":"2025-05-04T12:05:30","modified_gmt":"2025-05-04T11:05:30","slug":"police-detain-three-officers-over-death-of-suspect-in-kebbi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/police-detain-three-officers-over-death-of-suspect-in-kebbi","title":{"rendered":"Police detain three officers over death of suspect in Kebbi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Kebbi State Police Command has detained three officers over the alleged murder of a suspect arrested in connection with a theft case.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Nafi\u2019u Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi.<\/p>\n<p>According to Abubakar, the incident followed a report of stolen trailer truck rims lodged at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jega.<\/p>\n<p>A suspect, identified as Abubakar Auwal, was arrested on April 15 in connection with the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn April 16, at about 6 a.m., while the investigation was ongoing, the suspect collapsed in detention,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was rushed to the General Hospital, Jega, for treatment but died the same day at about 10 p.m,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The command said three officers found culpable in the matter are currently in detention at the SCID for further investigation. Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Jega has been queried and redeployed with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<p>Abubakar reaffirmed the command\u2019s commitment to upholding professionalism and ethical standards in policing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wrong actions of a few officers do not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force.
