{"id":161547,"date":"2025-05-06T23:33:29","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T22:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/ipob-prosecution-witness-not-dss-operative-but-paid-mercenary-nnamdi-kanu"},"modified":"2025-05-07T00:35:29","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T23:35:29","slug":"ipob-prosecution-witness-not-dss-operative-but-paid-mercenary-nnamdi-kanu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/ipob-prosecution-witness-not-dss-operative-but-paid-mercenary-nnamdi-kanu","title":{"rendered":"IPOB: Prosecution witness not DSS operative but paid mercenary \u2013 Nnamdi Kanu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on Tuesday said the witness produced by the Nigerian government at the Federal High Court in Abuja is a paid mercenary.<\/p>\n<p>Kanu insisted that the second prosecution witness identified as BBB was not an operative of the Department of State Services, DSS.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement by the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful in reaction to Tuesday\u2019s court proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>Powerful said Kanu had claimed that the second prosecution witness was unknown to him.<\/p>\n<p>The group was reacting to the alleged misrepresentation of today\u2019s proceedings at the Abuja Federal High Court regarding its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.<\/p>\n<p>Powerful condemned reports that the prosecution witness claimed that Kanu admitted inciting public to attack police.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement he signed, Powerful said: \u201cIPOB under the leadership of our indomitable leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, unequivocally condemns the deliberate and malicious misrepresentation of today\u2019s court proceedings by certain media outlets, in their reporting of the ongoing trial of our leader at the Federal High Court, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe blatant falsehoods peddled in the article titled \u201cNnamdi Kanu Admitted Inciting Public to Attack Police, Witness Tells Court\u201d are not only a disservice to journalistic integrity but also a calculated attempt to malign the character of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the legitimate struggle for Biafran self-determination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the avoidance of doubt, today\u2019s court session exposed the Nigerian government\u2019s prosecution as a cesspool of deceit, incompetence, and desperation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe prosecution, led by Mr Awomolo SAN, was caught in a web of lies and procedural violations that left their case in tatters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government\u2019s witness, identified as PW2-BBB, made baseless allegations against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu without a shred of evidence to substantiate their claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShockingly, the prosecution failed to file or serve any evidence or witness statements as required by law, even four years after purportedly obtaining a statement from this witness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis glaring violation of due process was so egregious that Justice James Omotosho, in his wisdom, cautioned the prosecution to adhere to legal standards and serve all necessary processes and exhibits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMazi Nnamdi Kanu, in open court, categorically stated that PW2-BBB is unknown to him and is nothing more than a mercenary hired to fabricate testimony against him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIPOB can confirm that PW2-BBB is not an officer of the State Security Service (SSS) based at their national headquarters in Abuja, as falsely presented by the prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis witness, cloaked in a mask to conceal their identity, is a paid agent deployed to perpetuate a travesty of justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet it be clear: IPOB has, out of respect for the court and Justice Omotosho\u2019s commitment to fairness, refrained from exposing the true identities of these so-called masked witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, should the prosecution persist in this shameful charade of parading mercenaries to testify against our leader, we will be compelled to reveal the identities addresses and family details of every past, present, and future witness, unmasking their roles in this orchestrated persecution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe claim that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu \u201cadmitted inciting the public\u201d is a perverse distortion of the truth. When questioned, PW2-BBB admitted, \u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d regarding the status of his baseless allegations, which were previously struck out by the same court after adjudication. To twist this response into an admission of guilt by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not only disgraceful journalism but a deliberate act of Igbo-phobia and anti-Biafra propaganda. We call on the media and the public to focus on the substance of this case\u2014the Nigerian government\u2019s failure to present a credible case, their reliance on falsehoods, and their flagrant disregard for the rule of law\u2014rather than frivolous distractions, such as the exclusion of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s sister-in-law from today\u2019s proceedings over a minor infraction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nigerian government\u2019s case against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not only weak but an embarrassment to the judiciary and a mockery of justice. Four years after initiating this trial, the prosecution has failed to file or serve evidence as required by law, exposing their agenda to detain our leader indefinitely through deceit and manipulation. We commend Justice Omotosho for her insistence on due process and urge her to continue upholding the principles of fairness and justice in this matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIPOB remains resolute in our pursuit of justice and the restoration of Biafra. We will not be deterred by the Nigerian government\u2019s antics or the complicity of certain media outlets in spreading falsehoods.
