Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Lagos State University, LASU, has expressed its \u201cunwavering support\u201d for the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede amid calls for his resignation.<\/p>\n

After a nationwide outrage that greeted the mass failure recorded in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the board on Wednesday bowed and admitted there were some technical errors.<\/p>\n

Oloyede, while apologizing to candidates during a press briefing, broke down in tears.<\/p>\n

Following his admission that the exam was marred by technical errors, affecting at least results of 379,997 candidates, a section of Nigerians called for his immediate resignation or sack.<\/p>\n

According to Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede must step aside for a more competent hand, stating that \u201cshedding crocodile tears is not enough\u201d.<\/p>\n

Reacting, the Lagos State University in a statement issued by its Deputy Registrar\/Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Thomas-Onashile, Oluwayemisi, urged aggrieved Nigerians to see the \u201cdevelopment not as a failure, but as an opportunity to strengthen our examination systems further\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, the university \u201cis expressing its unwavering support\u201d for the JAMB Registrar because of his \u201ccandid admission of technical failures\u201d.<\/p>\n

The statement reads, \u201cLagos State University stands solidly with Prof. Oloyede, affirming not only his courage and humility in this testing time but also the depth of character and integrity that has become the hallmarks of his glittering career as a public servant.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed, his decision to subject the process to an internal technical review and admit shortcomings reflects his exceptional character and demonstrates a kind of leadership that is scarce in the Nigerian public space.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, since taking office in 2016, Professor Oloyede has transformed JAMB through comprehensive reforms that have significantly improved examination credibility and transparency, and increased public confidence in the examination body, attracting plaudits from far and near.<\/p>\n

\u201cLagos State University has benefitted immensely in the enhanced processes of JAMB leading to the admission of better qualified candidates in our University.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurthermore, Prof. Oloyede\u2019s track record, dating back to his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, consistently shows commitment to excellence and integrity\u201d.<\/p>\n
