{"id":162855,"date":"2025-05-17T10:44:22","date_gmt":"2025-05-17T09:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/2027-sdp-restructures-leadership-appoints-new-national-officers"},"modified":"2025-05-17T11:50:55","modified_gmt":"2025-05-17T10:50:55","slug":"2027-sdp-restructures-leadership-appoints-new-national-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/parties\/2027-sdp-restructures-leadership-appoints-new-national-officers","title":{"rendered":"2027: SDP restructures leadership, appoints new national officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the appointment of new national officers as part of efforts to strengthen its internal structure and enhance preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>The appointments, which were approved by the party\u2019s National Working Committee (NWC), were made public in a statement issued on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba.<\/p>\n<p>According to Aiyenigba, the decision to fill the vacant positions followed a recent NWC meeting chaired by the party\u2019s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis restructuring is in line with the provisions of the SDP Constitution and the mandate given to the NWC by the National Convention,\u201d Aiyenigba said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a strategic move to fortify the party\u2019s leadership base as we gear up for the 2027 elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new appointments include Senator Ugochukwu Uba as Deputy National Chairman (South), Professor Sadiq Umar Abubakar as Deputy National Chairman (North), and Mr. Hussani Ado Bello as National Financial Secretary.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Uba, a seasoned politician from Anambra State, previously served as Director-General and Commissioner during the SDP-led administration of the late Governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife in 1992. He was also a member of the Centre for Democratic Studies (CDS) under Professor Omo Omoruyi during the Babangida era.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Sadiq Umar Abubakar, from Gombe State, is a statistician and academic with a Ph.D. in Political Economy and Development. He was the pioneer National Secretary of the SDP from 2010 to 2015 and the party\u2019s governorship candidate in Gombe State in 2011. He also served as the first Director-General of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hussani Ado Bello, a chartered accountant from Kano State, is a retired civil servant and finance consultant.
