Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has announced plans to construct the Datsin Hausa Dam in Adamawa State to mitigate the impact of perennial flooding caused by water releases from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.<\/p>\n

The minister made this revelation during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing said the dam will serve as a buffer to curtail the floodwaters and will also be used for irrigation, water supply, and hydropower development.<\/p>\n

According to him, the study and design for the Datsin Hausa Dam have been completed, and the government is now procuring a transaction advisor to facilitate the construction process.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the dam will not only protect communities from flooding but also provide additional benefits such as irrigation for agriculture and hydropower generation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very concern about the same because there are releases from another dam that comes in, when this water comes, it affects the whole country,\u201d the minister stated.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Utsev disclosed that the government has approved funds for the reconstruction of the Alau Dam in Borno State, which had previously suffered damage, resulting in loss of lives and properties.<\/p>\n
