{"id":163371,"date":"2025-05-21T06:04:35","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T05:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/open-grazing-no-longer-sustainable-in-benue-miyetti-allah"},"modified":"2025-05-21T07:08:48","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T06:08:48","slug":"open-grazing-no-longer-sustainable-in-benue-miyetti-allah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/open-grazing-no-longer-sustainable-in-benue-miyetti-allah","title":{"rendered":"Open grazing no longer sustainable in Benue \u2013 Miyetti Allah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, has said that open grazing is no longer sustainable in Benue state.<\/p>\n<p>This was as it assured that it would embrace initiatives to end the practice and ensure peace in Benue rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary of MACBAN in the state, Ibrahim Galma declared this on Tuesday at a One Day Sakeholders Engagement\/Launch of AgroPastoral Integration for Peace and Sustainable Development, AIPASD, Project by GoGreen Environmental Health Sustainability Initiatives, convened under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria, SPRiNG, programme.<\/p>\n<p>Galma assured that MACBAN would support the project to achieve its aim of having peace in Benue state, noting that the association had been part of the project from its pilot stage.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed the need for partnership between herders and farmers to achieve the aim of the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe position of MACBAN is that we are fully in support of this project from the beginning and we are going to be in this project to the end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that the project has been expanded within Guma and Makurdi Local Government Areas, LGAs, key stakeholders in the areas should be involved, and we should also have a local committee comprising the Ardos and traditional rulers to help the pastoralists get knowledge of how to live peacefully with farmers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now know quite well that open grazing is not sustainable, not only in Benue state but in Nigeria in general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd from all indications, we have come to understand that there is a need for us to adapt to the reality because of the growing population, the challenge of insecurity and the climatic condition are adversely affecting our rural communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking, the Benue State Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Peter China lamented that for eight years, most farmers in the state could not access their farms due to herders crisis.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of GoGreen Environmental Health Sustainability Initiatives, conveners of meeting, Jackson Ameh said the event marked a significant milestone in the collective journey towards building a more peaceful, resilient and inclusive Benue state.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
