{"id":163448,"date":"2025-05-21T12:19:14","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T11:19:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/judge-condemns-social-media-use-by-kanus-lawyer-ejimakor-as-fg-opposes-live-streaming-of-trial"},"modified":"2025-05-21T13:25:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T12:25:07","slug":"judge-condemns-social-media-use-by-kanus-lawyer-ejimakor-as-fg-opposes-live-streaming-of-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/judge-condemns-social-media-use-by-kanus-lawyer-ejimakor-as-fg-opposes-live-streaming-of-trial","title":{"rendered":"Judge condemns social media use by Kanu\u2019s lawyer, Ejimakor as FG opposes live streaming of trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal Government of Nigeria has kicked against live streaming of court proceedings in the trial of the Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government, through its lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, kicked against a request made by Kanu\u2019s family for live streaming of the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>At the resumption of trial on Wednesday, Kanu\u2019s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN, drew the attention of the court to a letter by Awomolo.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter dated May 14, 2025, the Federal Government lawyer recommended that the use of phones be banned from the courtroom henceforth.<\/p>\n<p>The senior lawyer lamented the action of Aloy Ejimakor, a member of Kanu\u2019s team, who posts alleged misleading information on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Awomolo accused Ejimakor of posting misleading, embarrassing and unpleasant commentaries on the social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe on-going case is a serious matter that should not be trivialised by any lawyer from any of the parties,\u201d Awomolo said.<\/p>\n<p>In one of the video posts on his Facebook page, Ejimakor was said to have called on \u2018Biafrans\u2019 to rise against the persecution of Nnamdi Kanu.<\/p>\n<p>Agabi, Kanu\u2019s lead lawyer, equally condemned Ejimakor\u2019s action. He apologized profusely over the conduct and promised that such would not repeat itself.<\/p>\n<p>In his reaction, Justice James Omotosho expressed displeasure over he described as unprofessional conduct among Kanu\u2019s legal team. He described Ejimakor and others as mere content creators who do not want the trial to end, for their selfish interests.<\/p>\n<p>The judge charged all parties in the case especially those prosecuting the trial in the social media to act professionally so as not to have themselves to blame.<\/p>\n<p>He particularly warned Aloy Ejimakor to stop such conduct that may warrant the disbarring of a lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dEjimakor even have the audacity to post the approved list of counsel for Nnamdi Kanu on his Facebook page,\u201d the judge observed.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Omotosho charged all parties in the case to avoid acts that amount to misconduct and watch what they post on social media.<\/p>\n<p>The judge said he granted an accelerated hearing into the case in the interest of all parties, particularly for Nnamdi Kanu who has been in custody for too long<\/p>\n<p>The actual case later continued with the cross examination PW2 (a personnel of the DSS) code named BBB by Paul Erokoro, SAN, who conducted proceedings on behalf of the defence.<\/p>\n<p>On whether the DSS can be influenced by politicians or ministers, the witness stated that the agency is under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
