Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nasarawa State government has issued a warning that anyone caught bullying children or other vulnerable persons will be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.<\/p>\n

Barr. Hauwa Jugbo, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, made this known to journalists during a briefing ahead of the 2025 National Children\u2019s Day celebration on Thursday in Lafia.<\/p>\n

The commissioner emphasised the government\u2019s commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of every child by eliminating all forms of bullying.<\/p>\n

She stated that the state has consistently prioritised the protection of children and other vulnerable groups, in accordance with UN resolutions and the domesticated Child Rights Law.<\/p>\n

\u201cParents, teachers, adults, and other caregivers who are responsible for the welfare of children must refrain from bullying those in their care, as such actions attract sanctions,\u201d she warned.<\/p>\n

Jugbo expressed concern over the increasing reports of bullying, not only in schools but also within homes.<\/p>\n

She noted that victims often endure long-term physical, emotional, and psychological trauma.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is most troubling is the sense of entitlement and lack of empathy displayed by some perpetrators, who believe they have the right to mistreat their victims.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, many of these incidents are never reported to the authorities, which prevents the government from intervening and bringing the perpetrators to justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis troubling situation can lead to serious injuries, even death, or leave the victims with lasting anxiety that hinders their personality development and growth\u201d.<\/p>\n

She reiterated the state\u2019s zero-tolerance policy on bullying and warned that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law.<\/p>\n

\u201cBullying is a statutory offence, and legal action can be taken against perpetrators under existing laws,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The commissioner assured that the government would continue to prioritise the protection of vulnerable groups, ensuring they are given the opportunity to reach their full potential.<\/p>\n
