{"id":164071,"date":"2025-05-24T23:10:37","date_gmt":"2025-05-24T22:10:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/incompetence-petroan-reveals-reason-nnpcl-shut-down-port-harcourt-refinery"},"modified":"2025-05-25T00:13:40","modified_gmt":"2025-05-24T23:13:40","slug":"incompetence-petroan-reveals-reason-nnpcl-shut-down-port-harcourt-refinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/incompetence-petroan-reveals-reason-nnpcl-shut-down-port-harcourt-refinery","title":{"rendered":"Incompetence \u2014 PETROAN reveals reason NNPCL shut down Port Harcourt Refinery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has said the real reason the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) shut down Port Harcourt Refinery after spending $1.5 billion on its rehabilitation is incompetence.<\/p>\n<p>The National President of PETROAN, Billy Gillis-Harry, disclosed this in a telephone interview on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>His comment comes as NNPCL on Saturday announced the shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refinery.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson of the state-owned oil firm, Olufemi Soneye, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the shutdown is due to planned maintenance and sustainability assessment scheduled for May 24th, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>However, Soneye did not state when the Refinery would resume operation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis scheduled maintenance and sustainability assessment will commence on May 24, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, Gillis-Harry said the shutdown showed the level of insincerity on the part of NNPCL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shutdown of the state-owned refinery showed that the managers of Port Harcourt Refinery are incompetent and insincere all along,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The shutdown of Port Harcourt Refinery comes amid speculation over its petroleum production capacity after it was resuscitated in November 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Barely four days ago, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association raised an alarm over the delays in the rehabilitation of the 210,000 barrels-per-day Port Harcourt Refinery and the Warri and Kaduna Refineries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
