{"id":164372,"date":"2025-05-26T22:46:55","date_gmt":"2025-05-26T21:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/abuja-property-dispute-lawyer-asks-igp-to-probe-alleged-frivolous-charge-against-him"},"modified":"2025-05-26T23:49:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-26T22:49:00","slug":"abuja-property-dispute-lawyer-asks-igp-to-probe-alleged-frivolous-charge-against-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/abuja-property-dispute-lawyer-asks-igp-to-probe-alleged-frivolous-charge-against-him","title":{"rendered":"Abuja property dispute: Lawyer asks IGP to probe alleged frivolous charge against him"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Human rights lawyer Barrister Victor Giwa has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate the Commissioner of Police, Legal Services of the Nigeria Police, Chiozoba Oyakhire Ehiede, and Ms Asabe Waziri over an allegation of a frivolous charge filed against him and one other.<\/p>\n<p>Giwa, in a letter dated May 23, 2025, asked the IGP to probe the allegation that there was financial inducement to charge him to court.<\/p>\n<p>He is also seeking the intervention of the IGP to unravel the connection between Asabe Waziri and the CP Legal, the withdrawal of the charge against him, and the re-investigation of charge No. CR\/150\/25, IGP v. Victor Giwa and another.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, he is being charged in court for standing against falsehood and lies and insisting that the right thing should be done.<\/p>\n<p>Parts of the letter read: \u201cI write to report the various illegal and unlawful activities carried out against me by CP Chiozoba Oyakhire Ehiede and Asabe Waziri.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe CP Legal gave unlawful advisory to the IGP in aid of Asabe Waziri and caused officers of the Nigeria Police Force, led by CSP Maga, to forcefully break into an apartment and put Asabe Waziri in possession of flats situated at No. 1 Mekong Close, Maitama, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was done on 26th June 2024, while there was a pending application for Stay of Execution, Notice of Appeal with Appeal No: CA\/ABJ\/CV\/246\/2022 to the Court of Appeal, and a positive Order of Court in the High Court, Keffi, Nasarawa State, in Suit No. NSD\/K70F\/2024, served on Asabe Waziri and the Police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a reckless manner, I was arrested as the lawyer to Cecil Osakwe and the Abeh Signature Apartment, forcefully taken to the apartment, and made to open the flats. I insisted that I would not be able to do that, since the matter is subject of litigation in both the Supreme Court and the High Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, at the instance and advice of CP Legal, the police officers broke the doors of the flats and put Asabe Waziri in possession. Asabe Waziri has remained in the flats till date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe CP Legal is using his office to raise charges against me with the intention of silencing me from speaking out against his unlawful action that puts the image of the Nigerian Police into disrepute. As of today, the CP has filed charges against me at the instance of Asabe Waziri\u2019s petition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe charge with Charge No. CR\/150\/25 filed at the FCT High Court is aimed at embarrassing and harassing me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI humbly submit that the current charge against me in Charge No. CR\/150\/25 is baseless, frivolous, and vindictive.
