Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Joint Investigation Centre (JIC) has disclosed that the investigations of 1450 terrorists on the level of their involvement have been completed and it is now time for the commencement of their trial.<\/p>\n

It, however, said delayed prosecution is derailing their efforts.<\/p>\n

The Acting Commander JIC, Colonel AU Ahmed, who was represented by Captain Olugbenga Adeniyi stated this while briefing journalists on the activities of the Centre.<\/p>\n

Col. Ahmed said the 1,450 terrorists are part of the 1,877 terrorists being investigated at the Centre for their involvement in terrorism activities.<\/p>\n

He said upon completion of investigation, they are divided into 3 groups \u201cAfter the investigation, the Complex Casework Group (CCG) carried out the review of the investigation reports and offered the necessary legal advice.<\/p>\n

\u201cBased on the result of the investigations and the legal review, the detainees are categorized into 3 groups; which are Prosecution, Rehabilitation and Reintegration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose recommended for prosecution are taken to Giwa Project in Kainji, those for rehabilitation are moved to Op SAFE CORRIDOR, and those for reintegration are handed over to the Borno State Government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ahmed also lamented that despite living up to its mandate, the Centre is faced with a number of challenges including difficulty in accessing witnesses and delay in prosecution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Centre faces difficulty in securing most of the witnesses that would have aided the investigations. This is partly due to lack of accessibility by own investigators to most of the areas of arrest or crime scene, unwillingness of some witnesses to come forward and testify.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe delay in prosecution of most of the suspects whose investigations have been completed also poses a great challenge to the Centre\u201d.<\/p>\n

Recall that the reintegration of deradicalised terrorist is still ongoing by the Borno state government. 230 repentant terrorists were the last batch to have gone through the process last month.<\/p>\n
