Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, has expressed concern over the delays experienced by students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) across the state.<\/p>\n

He blamed the delays on late arrival of examination materials.<\/p>\n

This was disclosed in a statement released by the press secretary of the ministry, Peter Amogbonjaye, in Ilorin.<\/p>\n

Olohungbebe voiced his concerns on Wednesday during an on-the-spot assessment of several schools across Moro, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Ilorin West local government areas, describing the disruption, which also affected the English Language papers, as regrettable.<\/p>\n

The commissioner called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to put in place better logistics and strategies to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in future examinations.<\/p>\n

Olohungbebe however commended students, teachers and parents for their resilience, patience and discipline despite the setbacks caused by the delay, praising their orderly conduct.<\/p>\n

He noted that it helped maintain calm and ensured the examinations proceeded once the materials arrived.<\/p>\n

The commissioner reaffirmed the state government\u2019s commitment to quality education and its readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth conduct of future examinations.<\/p>\n

Schools visited during the tour included Government Day Secondary School, Shao (Moro LGA), Army Day Secondary School, Sobi, Government Day Secondary School, Karuma and Government Day Secondary School, Oja-Gbooro.<\/p>\n

Others include Al-Mumeen International School (Ilorin East LGA), Government Day Secondary School, Oke-Kere (Ilorin South LGA), Ansarul Islam Secondary School and College of Arabic and Islamic Studies Secondary School, Ilorin (Ilorin West LGA).<\/p>\n
