{"id":164974,"date":"2025-05-30T11:45:39","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T10:45:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/appeal-court-overturns-high-court-judgment"},"modified":"2025-05-30T12:55:12","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T11:55:12","slug":"appeal-court-overturns-high-court-judgment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/appeal-court-overturns-high-court-judgment","title":{"rendered":"Appeal Court overturns High Court judgment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has overturned the ruling of the Federal High Court in Kano regarding the local government elections conducted in October, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST recalls that the APC had filed a suit with the Federal High Court, seeking to stop the elections based on allegations that the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Sani Malumfashi alongside some commissioners were card-carrying members of the ruling NNPP.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Amobeda ruled in their favor and ordered a halt to the polls but the elections were conducted regardless.<\/p>\n<p>While delivering the judgment on Friday, Justice Oyewumi of the appeal court stated that the Federal High Court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case, let alone deliver a ruling on it.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the Court of Appeal upheld the appeal filed by the Kano State Government and affirmed the validity of the October polls.<\/p>\n<p>As at the time of filing this report, the APC has yet to respond to the judgment and calls placed to the spokesperson of the party, Ahmad Aruwa by this reporter went unanswered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
