{"id":165016,"date":"2025-05-30T20:02:56","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T19:02:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/net-zero-emission-2060-cislac-demands-tax-incentives"},"modified":"2025-05-30T21:05:45","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T20:05:45","slug":"net-zero-emission-2060-cislac-demands-tax-incentives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/net-zero-emission-2060-cislac-demands-tax-incentives","title":{"rendered":"Net zero emission 2060: CISLAC demands tax incentives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, has stressed the need for tax incentives for target investors in the clean energy sector in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The call is coming on the heels of the global push towards net zero emissions, with many countries of the world, including Nigeria, pledging to achieve net zero emissions by 2060.<\/p>\n<p>CISLAC made the for recommendation at a one day training on Fossil Phase-Out Advocacy, held in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom Ibom State on Friday, with the theme, \u2018Using the Instrumentality of Taxation for Energy Transition\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The organization also called on government to embrace inter-agency collaboration to drive the transition process, emphasising that the tax system\/structure should be aligned with the transition and distribution of revenue from taxation should be equitably assigned.<\/p>\n<p>According to CISLAC, \u201cGovernment should embrace inter-agency collaboration. Capacity building for the managers of the process is very important<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere must be transparency and accountability in the transition process. Provide tax incentives to investors and stakeholders must demand for tax openness and investigation in transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CISLAC called on CSOs to carry out strong advocacy on the subsidy fund and its usage by the government, emphasizing that the revenue from subsidy is to be invested on the transition from fossil fuel to clean energy.<\/p>\n<p>It also stressed that global funding for climate change should be used at national level to reduce dependency on fossil fuel, adding that there was need for research and analysis of real-life situations in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Director of Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, had while declaring the training open, reminded participants of the complex relationships between fossil fuel exploration, environmental degradation and economic development.<\/p>\n<p>Musa, who was represented by his administrative officer, Mohammed Murtala, said the devastating impact of climate change and the environmental, economic, and social consequences of fossil fuel exploration in Nigeria have been well-documented.<\/p>\n<p>He said communities in Akwa Ibom State are already experiencing the harsh realities of climate change occasioned by flooding and oil spills, adding \u201cit\u2019s imperative that we act swiftly to mitigate these impacts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>While noting that Nigeria has developed a comprehensive Energy Transition Plan, aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, he challenged participants to ask the questions \u2013 \u201cAre we moving swiftly enough to meet our climate goals?
