Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A Federal High Court in Kano has convicted and sentenced 29 persons for various cybercrime-related offenses.<\/p>\n

The judgment of Justice S. M. Shuaibu was entered after the defendants had been independently charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Kaduna Zonal Directorate.<\/p>\n

The convicts, all arrested for offences ranging from internet fraud and impersonation to money laundering and possession of proceeds of crimes, duly pleaded guilty with no contest to the charges during the court proceedings.<\/p>\n

Most of them had a charge with only one count except one Okechukwu Kingsley Ejim, who was arraigned on a two-count charge.<\/p>\n

In one of the matters, the plaintiff in the matter was Godfrey Prosper, alias \u201cGoodlife001,\u201d who was found to have created a false Facebook profile to impersonate a foreign national for the purpose of defrauding unsuspecting victims.<\/p>\n

The charge against Prosper reads:<\/p>\n

\u201cThat you Prosper Godfrey (a.k.a Goodlife001), male, sometime in April, 2025 in Nassarawa State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, fraudulently impersonated Goodlife001 via a fake Facebook account with intent to gain advantage for yourself from unsuspecting foreign nationals and thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (i) of the Cybercrimes Prohibition Prevention Etc Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) (iv) of the same Act.\u201d<\/p>\n

The prosecution counsel, M. U. Gadaka and M. Lawal urged the court to convict and pass sentence accordingly after they had pleaded; the defence, however, pleaded for mercy, as they argued that the convicts had expressed remorse.<\/p>\n

Justice Shuaibu sentenced the convicts to varying terms of imprisonment or opts for fine after all pleaded \u201cguilty\u201d.<\/p>\n
