Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A man simply identified as Waris from Apana Compound in Adeta, Ilorin, died while trying to escape arrest from Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) agents during environmental sanitation exercise on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The reports claim Waris was running from a KWEPA agent, after being accused of violating the sanitation laws in the state, when he fell and collapsed.<\/p>\n

He was rushed to Adewole Cottage Hospital and then was referred to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.<\/p>\n

Kwara state police commissioner CP Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident.<\/p>\n

He said, the KWEPA agent identified as Tunde Akewu had been detained in relation to the death of Waris.<\/p>\n

He further revealed, Waris\u2019s death had resulted in an angry mob attack.<\/p>\n

The protestors burnt a KWEPA operational Hummer bus and attempted to attack police holding the suspect in Adewole police station, but were successfully repelled by police officers.<\/p>\n

Another taskforce agent was also beaten up and locked in a toilet by the angry mob but was rescued by police officers.<\/p>\n

The CP while expressing regret over the entire incident, pleaded for calm to allow the investigation run its full course.<\/p>\n
