{"id":165617,"date":"2025-06-04T16:30:48","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T15:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/adamawa-stakeholders-back-reserved-seats-for-women-bill"},"modified":"2025-06-04T17:31:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T16:31:13","slug":"adamawa-stakeholders-back-reserved-seats-for-women-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/adamawa-stakeholders-back-reserved-seats-for-women-bill","title":{"rendered":"Adamawa stakeholders back \u2018Reserved Seats for Women Bill\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Notable women and other stakeholders in Adamawa State have lent their weight to a bill proposing allocation of seats specially for women in the various state houses of Assembly and in the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>The bill in view, \u2018Reserved Seats for Women Bill\u2019, proposes amendment to the Constitution of Nigeria to establish one additional special seat for women per state and the Federal Capital Territory in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, totaling 74 new seats at the federal level.<\/p>\n<p>At the state level, the bill proposes three additional seats for women per state in the houses of assembly, creating 108 new seats around the country, a provision designed for 16 years, spanning four election cycles, after which it may be reviewed.<\/p>\n<p>The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, rallied stakeholders in Adamawa State for the support of the Reserved Seats Bill, an event which attracted government officials, representatives of civil society organizations, traditional rulers, and community leaders.<\/p>\n<p>In her opening remark, the Country Vice President of FIDA Nigeria, Mrs Eliana Martins, said the objective of the event was to build consensus and consolidate memoranda to be submitted to the Constitutional Reform Committee during the upcoming zonal public hearings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Reserved Seats for Women Bill is a transformative piece of legislation designed to enhance gender equity by creating additional exclusive seats for women in the National and State Assemblies,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>She acknowledged the support of the Federation of Muslim Women\u2019s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN, and commended the Adamawa State Government for its collaboration, particularly the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, the State Chief Judge, and other key female stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>The Adamawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Neido Tanyishi Geoffrey Kofulto, appreciated FIDA\u2019s efforts and reaffirmed government\u2019s commitment to inclusive governance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Fintiri-led administration is making deliberate policy efforts to promote gender equality and support the rights of women and children,\u201d the commissioner said.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking at the event, the Majority Leader in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Kate Mamuno Raymond, only woman in the 25-member Assembly, said women must remain united and sustain advocacy efforts to ensure the passage of the bill.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was concluded with renewed calls for all stakeholders to support the Reserved Seats for Women Bill towards greater equity and inclusive governance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
