Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Commuters have been stuck for over eight hours in major traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The gridlock occurred on Wednesday, following two road crashes that took place around the Ogere Mile 12 market on both carriageways of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in separate incidents.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST gathered that a petrol-laden tanker also exploded directly in front of the NASFAT Islamic Centre.<\/p>\n

According to reports, the tanker fell while in motion and caught fire soon after, causing dense smoke to rise into the air and frightening nearby drivers and residents.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST reports that the traffic began at about 9 am and was still ongoing at the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n

The Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, had, however, advised commuters and motorists not to panic, stating that experts are on ground to handle the situation.<\/p>\n

The command\u2019s spokesperson, Florence Okpe, in a statement made available to DAILY POST, said all necessary equipment has been mobilised for the required recovery operations.<\/p>\n

She added that FRSC, firefighters, police, and other traffic agencies are doing their best to remove the obstructions.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo road traffic crashes occurred around the Ogere Mile 12 market on both carriageways of the Lagos-Ibadan expressways in separate occurrences.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother one which led to a fire outbreak from a crashed PMS laden Tanker opposite NASFAT Islamic Centre on the outward Lagos section of the expressways.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crashes and the resultant obstructions have led to the traffic jam along the Lagos-Ibadan expressways between NASFAT U-turn and Arepo on the outward Lagos section of the expressways, as well as between NASFAT U-turn and RCCG car park C on the inward Lagos section of the expressways.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also witnessing traffic congestion between Mile 12 market Ogere and CDK on the outward Lagos section of the expressways, as well as between Mile 12 market Ogere and Ogere Resort on the inward Lagos section of the expressways.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who have time-bound activities may explore alternative routes and for those who can postpone their trips, let us endeavor to do so while the situation gets controlled,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
