Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Gombe State Police Command has rolled out new rules banning dangerous weapons in public places and placing tighter controls on motorcycle use across the state.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from the police on Tuesday, anyone caught carrying or displaying items like cutlasses, knives, daggers, or clubs during festivals, ceremonies or large gatherings will face arrest.<\/p>\n

The Command said the ban is a direct response to the growing threat of street thuggery, locally known as Kalare, which has been linked to chaos during public events.<\/p>\n

Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, stressed that no one is above the law, and that these measures are being taken to prevent violence before it starts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese weapons are often used to intimidate, injure, or even kill. We\u2019ve seen how quickly things can spiral during celebrations when weapons are involved,\u201d CP Yahaya said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t about stopping people from celebrating \u2014 it\u2019s about making sure everyone gets home safely.\u201d<\/p>\n

The police are also cracking down on the use of motorcycles, especially at night. From now on, motorcycles are not allowed to operate between 7:00pm and 6:00am. Also, no rider is allowed to carry more than one passenger, and those loud truck-like horns many bikers install are now banned too.<\/p>\n

According to the command, motorcycles have become a tool for criminals to escape quickly after committing crimes, and these new restrictions are aimed at making the state safer for everyone.<\/p>\n

Officers across the state have been told to enforce the new rules without exception. Anyone caught breaking them will be arrested and prosecuted.<\/p>\n

The police then charged community leaders, traditional rulers, parents, and motorcycle union heads to help spread the word.<\/p>\n

They also urged residents to report any suspicious activity or violations to the nearest police station or via the following emergency numbers: 08150567771, 09036435359, and 07038793973.<\/p>\n

While reassuring the public of their right to peaceful living, the police made it clear that anyone who poses a threat to that peace will face the full weight of the law.<\/p>\n
