{"id":167407,"date":"2025-06-26T11:16:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T10:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/controversy-trials-calls-for-nmdpra-ceo-ahmeds-sack"},"modified":"2025-06-26T11:16:00","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T10:16:00","slug":"controversy-trials-calls-for-nmdpra-ceo-ahmeds-sack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/controversy-trials-calls-for-nmdpra-ceo-ahmeds-sack","title":{"rendered":"Controversy trials calls for NMDPRA CEO, Ahmed\u2019s sack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Controversy has trailed the recent protest by Nigerians demanding the resignation of the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority,Farouk Ahmed.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST reports on Monday that a group, Situation Room for Oil Sector Reforms, staged a protest at the offices of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, and Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in Abuja to demand the resignation of Ahmed.<\/p>\n<p>The group had alleged that Ahmed misappropriated over $5 million in NMDPRA funds.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in June, a group of lawyers and members of civil society organisations had also demanded Ahmed\u2019s probe for misappropriation of $5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Another group of religious leaders recently heralded the \u2018Ahmed Must Go\u2019 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>However, the President and Vice President of the League of Civil Society Groups and National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Mohammed Basah and Mukhtar Akoshile, described the protest and campaign against Ahmed as politically motivated.<\/p>\n<p>They urged Nigerians and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ignore the call for Ahmed\u2019s sack.<\/p>\n<p>According to them, the allegations range from mismanagement of funds to licensing irregularities, claims by some civil society leaders \u201clargely unsubstantiated and politically motivated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have reviewed the ongoing campaign against Engineer Farouk Ahmed and found no credible evidence of wrongdoing. On the contrary, the NMDPRA under his leadership has introduced transparent and globally competitive frameworks that are stabilising the downstream sector.
