{"id":16786,"date":"2019-10-15T18:32:27","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T18:32:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=16786"},"modified":"2019-10-15T18:48:42","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T18:48:42","slug":"schroders-talk-why-uk-focused-stocks-look-their-cheapest-in-a-decade-tuesday-15-october-2019-527-pm-seplat-petroleum-expands-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/schroders-talk-why-uk-focused-stocks-look-their-cheapest-in-a-decade-tuesday-15-october-2019-527-pm-seplat-petroleum-expands-production","title":{"rendered":"Why UK-focused stocks look their cheapest in a decade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The West African oil group will pay 166 pence per share for Eland, which translates into a premium of 28.5 per cent from the company\u2019s closing price on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Shares in Eland jumped by 28 per cent on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The board of Eland \u2013 which has its headquarters in Aberdeen, but operates mostly in Nigeria \u2013 have backed the deal.<\/p>\n<p>So too has its three largest shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>Seplat chairman Dr. Bryant Orjiako said the acquisition would allow the company to increase the scale of its operations in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He said the new combined entity would have oil production of 38,000 barrels per day and will mostly focus its operations in the West Delta region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe firmly believe that Eland is a complementary fit with Seplat and that there will be enhanced scale and a wider range of capabilities made available to the enlarged group through the combination,\u201d Dr Orjiako said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis acquisition signals the next step in our journey that will underpin Seplat\u2019s ambition to be the leading independent exploration and production [company] in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eland chairman Russell Harvey said: \u201cThis offer allows Eland Shareholders to benefit from an accelerated and enhanced realisation of this value through a cash offer at a significant premium to the current market value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, the business will benefit from the opportunity to become part of a more significant player in the Nigerian oil and gas market.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The West African oil group will pay 166 pence per share for Eland, which translates into a premium of 28.5 per cent from the company\u2019s closing price on Monday.
