{"id":168048,"date":"2025-07-02T13:47:46","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T12:47:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/police-arrest-suspect-for-fraud-recover-7000-in-abuja"},"modified":"2025-07-02T14:57:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T13:57:18","slug":"police-arrest-suspect-for-fraud-recover-7000-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/police-arrest-suspect-for-fraud-recover-7000-in-abuja","title":{"rendered":"Police arrest suspect for fraud, recover $7,000 in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Zone 7 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force said it has arrested a suspect over the alleged fraudulent sale of a defective luxury vehicle and recovered $7,000 from the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>The Police Public Relations Officer in the zone, ASP Halima Mohammed, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed said the incident was reported to the zone on June 19 via a petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of the zone.<\/p>\n<p>The Zone 7 police spokesperson said: \u201cThe AIG was petitioned over a fraudulent sales transaction at Ilado Car Stand in the Lokogoma area of Abuja, orchestrated by the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe complainant reported that she saw a Facebook advertisement on June 10 for a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon offered for sale at N32 million, equivalent to $20,000,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed added that the complainant had contacted the seller, now the suspect, and proceeded to inspect the vehicle at the designated car stand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon inspection, she was told that the only fault with the car was its power steering system, which would be fixed within one week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on this assurance, the complainant paid a deposit of $7,000 with a mutual understanding that the money paid would be returned if she chose not to proceed with the purchase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon conducting a follow-up inspection with a certified Mercedes-Benz mechanic, significant electrical and mechanical defects were discovered beyond the initially stated issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen she requested a refund, the suspect insisted that no refund would be made unless the car was sold to another buyer,\u201d she narrated.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed said the suspect had also refused to provide a clear timeline for the payment, thereby raising suspicion of a fraudulent act.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, upon receipt of the petition, police detectives from the zone, led by CSP Akinlabi Ogundile, took swift action.<\/p>\n<p>She said the suspect, who was therefore invited for questioning, confessed to the crime during investigation, and the sum of $7,000 was recovered from him.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed said efforts were being intensified by the zone to arrest the fleeing accomplice of the suspect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
