{"id":168087,"date":"2025-07-02T13:53:28","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T12:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/supreme-court-adjourns-edo-guber-judgement-indefinitely"},"modified":"2025-07-02T15:00:31","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T14:00:31","slug":"supreme-court-adjourns-edo-guber-judgement-indefinitely","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/supreme-court-adjourns-edo-guber-judgement-indefinitely","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court Adjourns Edo Guber Judgement Indefinitely"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Supreme Court has adjourned indefinitely judgment in the legal battle on the Edo State Governorship Election Petition.<\/p>\n<p>The apex court adjourned the judgment sine die after taking arguments for and against the election that produced Senator Monday Obekpolo as the duly elected governor.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Garba Lawal, who presided over the hearing of the appeal filed by Mr. Asue Ighodalo and the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP), said that the date for delivery of the judgment would be communicated to the parties involved.<\/p>\n<p>Ighodalo, whose appeal was argued by Ken Mosia, SAN, prayed the Supreme Court to remove Obekpolo and pronounce him as the winner of the election.<\/p>\n<p>His ground was that he scored the majority of lawful votes in the election.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), represented by Kanu Agabi, SAN, asked the apex court to dismiss the appeal in its entirety.<\/p>\n<p>Agabi argued that Ighodalo and the PDP had, in their petition, stigmatized the election as invalid and unlawful on the ground of non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The electoral body said that having declared the election as unlawful and illegal, Ighodalo and the PDP cannot turn around and pray the court to declare them as winners of an illegality.<\/p>\n<p>INEC accused Ighodalo and the PDP of being inconsistent in their grievances against the election and pleaded that their case be dismissed for want of merit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
