Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stated that he does not support the idea of Peter Obi being Atiku Abubakar\u2019s running mate in 2027.<\/p>\n

Citing the unwritten understanding in Nigerian presidential politics, which allows the two regions\u2014the North and South\u2014to each complete eight years in office, he argued that power should remain in the South for another four years after President Tinubu\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

Baba-Ahmed believes that Peter Obi, who he maintains won the 2023 presidential election but was rigged out, is too prominent a figure to serve as anyone\u2019s vice president.<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview with Arise News, the business mogul said: \u201cI think Peter Obi should not be a VP. Having gotten a disputed 10 million votes, now you\u2019re starting to understand what I mean.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baba-Ahmed further stated that he sees nothing exceptional about the coalition, insisting that Peter Obi mounted a formidable challenge single-handedly in 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is all about a narrative that was sold out to Nigeria very quickly, that to defeat Tinubu, it has to be a coalition. Coalition is good, but when in 2023 we defeated APC, PDP, there was no coalition in the Labour Party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe real coalition we need is in the ballot box. Not a coalition. The real coalition is of votes at the ballot box. You protect them all the way to declaration.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou present a coalition of politicians, you open the flanks for APC to be talking their jargon, when APC is worse than what they are saying about ADC.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo in reality, what you need are the votes for a credible candidate with a credible ticket. There is no law, there is no principle which says that it must be a coalition.\u201d<\/p>\n
