{"id":168301,"date":"2025-07-04T12:04:23","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T11:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/court-finds-senator-natasha-guilty-of-contempt"},"modified":"2025-07-04T13:22:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T12:22:19","slug":"court-finds-senator-natasha-guilty-of-contempt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/court-finds-senator-natasha-guilty-of-contempt","title":{"rendered":"Court Finds Senator Natasha Guilty of Contempt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, found the suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, guilty of contempt.<\/p>\n<p>The court, in a ruling delivered by Justice Binta Nyako, noted that the embattled lawmaker went against its order by publishing a satirical apology to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.<\/p>\n<p>It held that the said apology, which she published on her Facebook page on April 7, made a mockery of a gag order that had been placed on the parties by the court.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the court ordered Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to, within seven days, publish an apology to it in two national dailies and also on her Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>The court equally ordered her to pay a N5 million fine, stressing that her contempt was in a civil proceeding.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the court\u2019s decision followed a contempt action initiated by Senator Akpabio, it declined to issue any order in his favour.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the court has proceeded to deliver its judgment on the suit Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan filed to quash the six-month suspension that was imposed on her by the Senate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
