Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Ireti Kingibe, has declared that, despite opposition from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, she would be re-elected should she decide to contest for the same seat in the National Assembly during the forthcoming 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n

Kingibe, who serves as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, made the statement on Tuesday while appearing as a guest on Political Paradigm, a programme aired on Channels Television.<\/p>\n

According to the Labour Party senator, the people of Abuja would vote her back into office should she seek re-election.<\/p>\n

It will be recalled that in July 2024, Wike had asserted that the Kingibe would not return to the red chamber in 2027.<\/p>\n

However, speaking on Tuesday, Kingibe expressed confidence that she would secure a resounding victory if she chooses to run again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that I will win in a landslide victory, bigger than the last one. The last one, bear in mind, that I went to the Senate with one of the highest, if not the highest votes of any legislator.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it was not just about (Peter) Obi. Yes, he brought some votes, but I also brought some votes to him that would not normally go to him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Kingibe further revealed that the people of Abuja harbour resentment toward the former Rivers State governor, who was appointed FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023.<\/p>\n

Kingibe claimed the minister has thus far treated the people of the FCT with disdain and contempt.<\/p>\n
