Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Bandawa village in Karim-Lamido local government council of the state.<\/p>\n

The attack, was reportedly carried out on Wednesday, at about 9.45 pm by suspected herders.<\/p>\n

Police spokesperson, James Leshen disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, received a distress call about the assault.<\/p>\n

Though officers were said to have been swiftly deployed to the scene, the attackers, according to the command\u2019s Public Relations Officer, fled before their arrival.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout ten houses were set ablaze during the attack,\u201d the spokesperson said, adding that some items, including a TECNO mobile phone, were recovered at the scene as evidence.<\/p>\n

While police authorities claimed no fatalities were recorded, community members told DAILY POST that one person died and several homes were destroyed.<\/p>\n

Speaking via telephone, Ishaya Peter, the youth leader of Bandawa, described the assault as \u201cunprovoked, barbaric, and condemnable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were sitting and discussing when we heard gunshots and people shouting. We tried to raise the alarm earlier in the day to security agencies but nothing was done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Peter alleged that the attackers were armed herders and some neighbors and villagers, mostly unarmed, were unable to defend themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of our brothers died because he couldn\u2019t swim across the river while fleeing. Women and children have been evacuated because we don\u2019t know when they might attack again,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

This incident comes barely two months after a similar attack in Bandawa community claimed three lives and left several people injured.<\/p>\n
