Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel has paid tributes to the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona lll, who died aged 91<\/p>\n

The former Ogun State governor spoke with newsmen after signing the condolence register at the private home of the late monarch.<\/p>\n

Daniel described the Awujale\u2019s passing as terrible, stating that the monarch\u2019s parental support would be missed.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cIt is a very painful death, and having looked after this community in the last six decades, probably one of the longest serving monarch in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe situation in Ijebuland cannot be the same again, because the people have been used to his paternal support, a great godfather who has navigated the land successfully.<\/p>\n

As a sign of honour and respect for the deceased king, Dare Alebiosu, the chairman of the Ijebu Ode local government, announced the temporary shutdown of all three major markets in Ijebu-Ode.<\/p>\n

The affected markets include Ita-Ale, Ita-Osu, and Oke-Aje, with the closure taking effect from Monday, 14th July 2025.<\/p>\n

According to Alebiosu, in a statement made available to newsmen, the closure is in accordance with traditional customs and is intended to provide all of Ijebuland\u2019s sons and daughters a space to grieve.<\/p>\n

\u201cNormal market activities shall resume on a date to be communicated in due course, after consultation with the appropriate traditional authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge all traders and residents to comply peacefully and respectfully.May the soul of our beloved Kabiyesi rest in perfect peace,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
