{"id":169720,"date":"2025-07-16T11:41:33","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T10:41:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/awujale-dead-kings-shouldnt-be-butchered-like-animals"},"modified":"2025-07-16T13:18:32","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T12:18:32","slug":"awujale-dead-kings-shouldnt-be-butchered-like-animals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/awujale-dead-kings-shouldnt-be-butchered-like-animals","title":{"rendered":"Awujale: Dead Kings Shouldn&#8217;t Be Butchered Like Animals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, says he was satisfied with how the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.<\/p>\n<p>The monarch who died on Sunday at the age of 91 years, was buried the following day at his residence in Ijebu Ode.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that the interment process was carried out by muslim clerics, as security operatives, including soldiers, barred traditionalists and members of the Osugbo cult from handling the burial.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, while speaking at the burial, revealed that the monarch had indicated he should be buried according to Islamic rites.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement by his Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, the Oluwo lauded the Awujale and his family for setting \u2018a path of honour\u2019 for Yoruba kings.<\/p>\n<p>He said no Yoruba monarch should be butchered like animals again in the name of burial ritual, stressing that any town willing that its king be butchered after death should appoint an herbalist, Osugbo and Ogboni as king.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sanctity of Yoruba traditional institutions has been protected by the process adopted in burying the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona. Kings are servants to their subjects. They are honourable men who have sacrificed themselves in the interest of their people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonour doesn\u2019t die with the king.
