Half of the current 36 state governors -18 \u2013 are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to the anti-graft agency\u2019s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. Olukoyede spoke during a sensitization programme for movie producers, musicians and bureau de change operators, in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>2. The African Democratic Congress has described the recent appointment of IBB\u2019s son and other northerners by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a \u201cdesperate attempt to buy back the trust that he has squandered over a year, particularly in Northern Nigeria.\u201d In a statement signed by the party\u2019s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC dismissed the appointments as \u201ctoo little, too late,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>3. The Kaduna State Police Command has stopped a planned political rally by supporters of former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, which was scheduled to hold in honour of his birthday. In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, the Command said that the rally could be infiltrated by criminal elements intending to cause violence and disrupt public order.<\/p>\n<p>4. Plateau State Government has demanded the withdrawal of military personnel from flashpoints, calling for deployment of mobile police personnel in the area. This follows recent attacks in villages in Riyom Local Government Area, where 27 persons were killed.<\/p>\n<p>5. The defection of two senators elected under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Osun State to the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Saturday sparked fresh concern over imminent defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke. Senators Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi from Osun East and Central senatorial districts resigned from the PDP in their separate letters dated June 21 and cited irreconcilable differences within the party as their reasons.<\/p>\n<p>6. Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a gun duel in the Owode-Egba area of the state. This comes as three victims who were abducted from the Ajebo community on July 16 were rescued unhurt from a forest in the area.<\/p>\n<p>7. The Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has smashed a cybercrime training centre in Umuahia, Abia State, arresting 23 suspected internet fraudsters, including eight undergoing training. The anti-graft agency said the centre, known as \u2018Yahoo-Yahoo Hustle Kingdom\u2019, was located inside the Doofco Palace building, behind Government College, Umuahia.<\/p>\n<p>8. Reports emerged on Saturday that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos is currently going through a modification process to upgrade it from 650,000 barrels per day to 700,000 barrels per day. The upgrade, which is to add another 50,000bpd to the facility\u2019s nameplate capacity, is expected to end in the fourth quarter of this year.<\/p>\n<p>9. The Social Democratic Party in the South-West, on Saturday, dissociated itself from the recent coalition of opposition parties. This was made known by the Chairman of Chairmen of the party in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Femi Olaniyi, popularly known as Ferrari, at the South-West Stakeholders\u2019 meeting, held at the party\u2019s secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.<\/p>\n<p>10. Grieving students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State yesterday demanded the corpse of the prime suspect, Femi Oladele, who allegedly orchestrated the murder of their two missing colleagues.
