{"id":170859,"date":"2025-07-23T12:59:41","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T11:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/efcc-withdraws-fraud-case-against-otudeko-after-recovery"},"modified":"2025-07-23T13:58:47","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T12:58:47","slug":"efcc-withdraws-fraud-case-against-otudeko-after-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/efcc-withdraws-fraud-case-against-otudeko-after-recovery","title":{"rendered":"EFCC Withdraws Fraud Case Against Otudeko After Recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed the 13-count charge brought against Oba Otudeko, former chairman of First Bank of Nigeria, FBN.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC had previously filed a 13-count charge against Oba Otudeko, former First Bank MD, Bisi Onasanya, former Honeywell board member Soji Akintayo, and a company, Anchorage Leisure Ltd, accusing them of fraudulently obtaining N12.3 billion, N5.2 billion, N6.2 billion, N6.1 billion, and N1.5 billion from First Bank under the guise that the funds were secured by various companies.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, struck out the charges on Wednesday, following the withdrawal of the case by Rotimi Oyedepo, counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>The senior advocate added that the EFCC and the Attorney general of the Federation, who initially convened the settlement talks had decided to withdraw the charges, after a thorough review of the various allegations and various correspondence from the bank that the depositors\u2019 funds which is the subject of the charge have been fully recovered and returned to its treasury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon thorough review of the allegations, and considering that the depositor funds involved in the charge have been fully recovered and returned to First Bank\u2019s treasury, the AGF decided, under Section 180 of the ACJA, to withdraw the charge,\u201d Mr Oyedepo submitted.<\/p>\n<p>Counsel for the first defendant, Bode Olanipekun, SAN, also confirmed that the funds in question, which were alleged to be loans, have been fully repaid.<\/p>\n<p>Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, representing the second defendant, informed the judge that they were invited to a meeting where it was clarified that the matter solely concerns the nominal complainant and the first defendant.<\/p>\n<p>Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), counsel for the third defendant, expressed agreement with the position taken by the second defendant, while Elija Akefe, representing the fourth defendant, stated he had no objection to the withdrawal of the charges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
