Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Twenty-five out of the twenty-six lawmakers in the Osun State House of Assembly have reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.<\/p>\n

The action is coming amid a wave of defections currently rocking the party in the state.<\/p>\n

The legislators, all elected on the PDP platform, dismissed rumours suggesting that they might follow the path of some federal lawmakers who recently resigned from the party.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, the Speaker of the House, Adewale Egbedun, said the entire PDP caucus in the state assembly remained united, loyal, and fully committed to Governor Adeleke and the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe twenty-five members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the PDP are united, loyal, and fully committed to the government of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and to the party that brought us here, which is the PDP,\u201d Egbedun declared.<\/p>\n

He described the reports of possible defections from the House as unfounded and said the lawmakers were determined to retain the trust of their constituents and deliver good governance in partnership with the Adeleke administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no division in this House. There is no defection. There is no crisis. The rumours flying around are simply rumours, and we are not in the business of chasing shadows,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Speaker stated that the Assembly members would remain firm in their support for Adeleke\u2019s re-election bid in 2026 and would work towards strengthening the PDP\u2019s hold on the state legislature.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, the honourable members, are men of honour. We are not for sale. We are not moved by noise or pressure. We hold the mandate of our people and we intend to keep that trust with dignity, loyalty, and a clear conscience,\u201d Egbedun affirmed.<\/p>\n

He also expressed the lawmakers\u2019 readiness to persuade the only opposition member in the House from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the PDP ahead of the forthcoming elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is not just to retain power but to deepen party unity and advance developmental governance,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The latest development comes on the heels of resignations by five federal lawmakers elected on the PDP platform.<\/p>\n

These resignations have raised concerns over a possible mass defection across the state political landscape.<\/p>\n

Among those who have left the PDP are Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), Oluwole Oke, Ijesa North Federal Constituency (Oriade\/Obokun), Abimbola Ajilesoro, Ife Federal Constituency (Ife Central\/East\/North\/South), and Sanya Ominrin, Ijesa South Federal Constituency (Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakunmosa East, and Atakunmosa West).<\/p>\n

The National Assembly members made their resignations publicly in personally signed letters addressed to their ward chairmen recently.<\/p>\n

By these resignations, the whole of Osun East Senatorial District, comprising Ife, Ijesa North, and Ijesa South Federal Constituencies (ten local government areas), is no longer in the hands of the Osun PDP.<\/p>\n
