{"id":171069,"date":"2025-07-24T13:09:31","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T12:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/defecting-osun-lawmakers-fell-into-apc-trap"},"modified":"2025-07-24T14:12:02","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T13:12:02","slug":"defecting-osun-lawmakers-fell-into-apc-trap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/parties\/defecting-osun-lawmakers-fell-into-apc-trap","title":{"rendered":"Defecting Osun Lawmakers Fell Into APC Trap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Senior Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Media, Hezekiah Bamiji, has described the defection of two senators, Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, as a miscalculation.<\/p>\n<p>Bamiji stated this on Thursday, when he appeared as a guest on \u2018The Morning Brief\u2019, a programme on Channels Television.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the federal lawmakers thought Governor Adeleke had planned to defect to the APC, and therefore fell into the trap of the ruling party, which holds sway at the federal level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe what I can say is a kind of miscalculation on the part of the lawmakers. The rumour perhaps overwhelmed them, thinking that the governor was coming, they felt that they were Abuja politicians and should be faster than the governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor is the leader of the party in Osun State. I felt they should have consulted with their leader and perhaps also the people in their various constituencies, but I am not sure that was done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if the governor was going to move, did they ask the governor any questions? Yes, the APC set a trap for them, and they entered,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the governor did not need to defect to the APC to provide good governance to the people of Osun State.<\/p>\n<p>It will be recalled that Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) were among the four senators who were on Wednesday, formally received from the opposition PDP to the ruling APC, further solidifying the party\u2019s hold on the upper chamber.<\/p>\n<p>Their defection increased the number of APC senators in the Senate to 70, up from the 50 it had at the commencement of the current 10th National Assembly in June 2023, which also reduced the number of PDP senators to 28.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
