Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has told President Bola Tinubu that politicians defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) are of little or no value.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu had, in a recent statement, attempted to project confidence in response to the growing coalition of opposition forces.<\/p>\n

The APC, the president\u2019s party, now has about 70 senators in the National Assembly following the defection of four more serving senators from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.<\/p>\n

The APC also has about 23 governors, and Tinubu has been boastful about this ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite the fact that each person is entitled to just one vote.<\/p>\n

However, CUPP, through its National Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh, said the president\u2019s remarks reveal a leader unsettled by the unified front challenging his administration.<\/p>\n

CUPP said the president is only trying to show confidence, knowing that opposition to his administration is gaining strength by the day and has remained steadfast.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President\u2019s superficial display of strength should not be taken seriously,\u201d CUPP said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurthermore, the defections to the APC carry little weight. Those switching sides lack significant political value, having relied on the influence of opposition leaders to secure their own elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

It added that the defecting politicians bring no electoral advantage \u201cto bolster the President\u2019s reelection bid.\u201d<\/p>\n

CUPP said the president is already standing on sinking ground ahead of the 2027 elections, adding that there is no escape for him.<\/p>\n
