{"id":171482,"date":"2025-07-27T21:06:45","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T20:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/delta-officers-who-assaulted-young-man-detained-police"},"modified":"2025-07-27T22:28:25","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T21:28:25","slug":"delta-officers-who-assaulted-young-man-detained-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/delta-officers-who-assaulted-young-man-detained-police","title":{"rendered":"Delta: Officers who assaulted young man detained \u2013 Police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Delta State Police Command led by Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda said it has identified and detained some police officers who allegedly assaulted a young man around Asaba Specialist Hospital area on Sunday, July 27, 2025, pending the commencement of their orderly room trial.<\/p>\n<p>The team leader of the officers, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, has been queried.<\/p>\n<p>Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe disclosed this in a statement sent to DAILY POST correspondent in Warri.<\/p>\n<p>According to the police spokesperson, \u201cThe Command is aware of a publication circulating on X and other social media channels regarding the unprofessional conduct of some policemen within the command.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn receipt of this video, which captures some policemen assaulting a young man around Asaba Specialist Hospital area on Sunday, 27th July 2025, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, immediately ordered that the policemen be identified and brought before the command headquarters for immediate disciplinary action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe men have been identified, and detained pending the commencement of their orderly room trial while their team leader who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police has been queried.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe CP wishes to reiterate that it\u2019s not in the character of the Command to trample on the rights of citizens, assault or harass people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe assures members of the public that the officers concerned will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the extant laws as stipulated in the Police Act and regulations to serve as a deterrent to others, noting that under his watch, such conduct by officers will not be tolerated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has therefore tasked officers and men to uphold the tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties with respect to fundamental human rights of all citizens in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), while hoping that the actions taken on the erring officers will serve as a deterrent to others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe appealed to members of the public to remain calm and assured them of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
