Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A fierce confrontation erupted on Saturday between horse riders and officers of the Nigeria Police Force in the Rimin Gata area, opposite Bayero University, Kano (New Site).<\/p>\n

Zagazola Makama reports that the incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. and involved a surveillance unit from the Rijiyar Zaki Division of the Kano State Police Command.<\/p>\n

The police had reportedly acted on a tip-off regarding an unauthorised horse race taking place in the area.<\/p>\n

The informant warned that the gathering had the potential to escalate into criminal activity such as phone snatching and possibly more serious violence.<\/p>\n

Responding swiftly, the surveillance team moved to disperse the crowd of riders. However, resistance from the horse riders led to a physical clash with police officers.<\/p>\n

Eyewitnesses reported rising tensions as officers attempted to detain some of the riders, who accused the police of using excessive force.<\/p>\n

Though the situation was later brought under control, it remains unclear whether any arrests were made. No fatalities were reported.<\/p>\n

The Kano State Police Command is yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.<\/p>\n
