Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>There is ongoing tension brewing in Osun State over a misunderstanding between Adewale Egbedun, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, and the Alasi of Asi in Odo-Otin Local Government Area, Oba Oyewale Isaac.<\/p>\n

Oba Oyewale Isaac had petitioned the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged threat to his life by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.<\/p>\n

In a petition addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI, Osogbo, and dated July 29, 2025, the monarch accused Egbedun of issuing threats to have him killed, stripped of his crown, and remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.<\/p>\n

The petition was filed through the monarch\u2019s legal representative, Chief K.E. Ngwoke, and cited a phone call allegedly placed by Egbedun to one of the monarch\u2019s wives, Olori Idowu, during which the threats were made.<\/p>\n

In a leaked audio made available to DAILY POST, the voice identified as that of Speaker Egbedun was making disparaging remarks about the monarch and vowing to take actions that would result in the king\u2019s disgrace and detention.<\/p>\n

Speaker Egbedun allegedly in the leaked audio also threatened that Oba Oyewale, \u201cHe is an animal. If he is a man, he should come to the palace today. The God of Iron will kill him wherever he is. He won\u2019t come back safely.\u201d<\/p>\n

The speaker reportedly added, \u201cThey will remove his crown, beat him, and I will suspend and make sure he is remanded in Ilesa tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

The monarch claimed the threats originated from a dispute related to the arrest of a young man from Asi earlier in the year, allegedly ordered by Egbedun.<\/p>\n

The monarch, in the petition, alleged that the man was detained and charged on a trumped-up charge.<\/p>\n

The Alasi stated he only contacted Egbedun to verify the circumstances of the arrest but was met with hostility and threats instead of an explanation.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur client briefed us that after the conversation with the suspect, the suspect called one of our client\u2019s wives, Olori Idowu, and threatened to kill our client,\u201d the petition reads in part.<\/p>\n

The monarch also alleged that the Speaker\u2019s threats made it unsafe for him to return to his palace in Odo-Otin Local Government Area, as the Speaker had allegedly vowed to have him beaten and killed if he returned.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur client\u2019s life as we write this petition is in palpable danger and there is no end in sight of this danger and what this man may do,\u201d the lawyer stated.<\/p>\n

Oba Oyewale added that he has been unable to resume his duties in his community since the threats and has now placed his safety in the hands of security agencies.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, in response to the allegations, defended his actions and accused the monarch of threatening him and interfering with police investigations.<\/p>\n

Egbedun, in a personally signed statement and made available by his Chief Press Secretary, Olamide Tiamiyu, in Osogbo on Thursday, stated that the monarch had taken offence since he relocated to Asi to be closer to his constituents, a move which, according to him, changed the power dynamics in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn light of these events, I was compelled to contact the Commissioner of Police and the Director of DSS, both of whom acted swiftly to apprehend one of the culprits involved in the attack against me,\u201d Egbedun said.<\/p>\n

He revealed that his convoy was attacked at Okuku three weeks prior and that investigations by the police and DSS were ongoing, with one suspect still at large.<\/p>\n

Egbedun claimed that the monarch later called him to discourage him from pursuing justice against the attackers and followed up with repeated threats to him and his aides.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Alasi continues to bombard me with threats, demanding the release of the arrested suspect and attempting to influence the course of justice,\u201d the Speaker alleged.<\/p>\n

He described the monarch\u2019s actions as attempts to intimidate him into silence and obstruct justice while insisting that his respect for the traditional institution remains intact.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a deep regard for traditional institutions and respect for the elderly, but that will not come at the expense of my life,\u201d Egbedun declared.<\/p>\n

While admitting that his emotional outbursts were regrettable, Egbedun maintained that his actions were provoked and rooted in self-defence and the preservation of law and order.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sincerely apologise to my supporters for my emotional outbursts; however, there can be no smoke without fire,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
