{"id":172117,"date":"2025-08-01T12:21:28","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T11:21:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/kwara-nannm-urges-action-from-nigerian-government"},"modified":"2025-08-01T13:35:43","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T12:35:43","slug":"kwara-nannm-urges-action-from-nigerian-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/kwara-nannm-urges-action-from-nigerian-government","title":{"rendered":"Kwara NANNM Urges Action from Nigerian Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Kwara State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, has sympathized with patients affected by the ongoing 7-day strike action in public health facilities across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs nurses, this situation saddens us and we are eager to return to our duties,\u201d the Kwara Secretary of the association, Comrade Markus Luca, stated in a statement in Ilorin on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe therefore call on the Federal Government to urgently address our demands so that we can resume work without further delay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comrade Markus listed some negative effects of the strike on patients, which include, among others, overcrowding in private hospitals as many patients have been forced to turn to private health facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The association also lamented the exploitation of patients by the private hospitals, contrary to the affordable or subsidized healthcare they would have received at public hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>It further noted the delayed or missed treatments for patients in respect of surgeries and antenatal care, among others, postponed indefinitely and putting patients\u2019 health at risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn emergencies, the lack of timely medical attention has reportedly contributed to preventable deaths and complications, especially among the vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, children, and the elderly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn some areas, unlicensed or traditional practitioners are exploiting the gap, posing risks to public healthcare through unsafe practices,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Federal Government has reportedly withdrawn the controversial circular on nurses\u2019 wages that recently triggered nationwide outrage among health workers and raised fears of a looming strike.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, announced the withdrawal on Thursday while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
