{"id":172333,"date":"2025-08-03T22:16:38","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T21:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/middle-aged-bricklayer-allegedly-kills-lady-friend"},"modified":"2025-08-04T00:09:55","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T23:09:55","slug":"middle-aged-bricklayer-allegedly-kills-lady-friend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/middle-aged-bricklayer-allegedly-kills-lady-friend","title":{"rendered":"Middle-Aged Bricklayer Allegedly Kills Lady Friend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A middle-aged man simply known as Mr Mayor, has allegedly killed his lady friend, Miss Happy Odhegba, a well-known cement dealer and PoS Operator.<\/p>\n<p>The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the suspect\u2019s home in Owheologbo, Isoko north local government area of Delta State after he sent his girlfriend away.<\/p>\n<p>The fleeing suspect who escaped with the suspect\u2019s Lady Motorcycle hails from Imo State but has been residing in the community for the past six months.<\/p>\n<p>Residents revealed that Mayor had been seen working as a house builder for about six months before the incident, and has a good business relationship with the victim.<\/p>\n<p>Sources revealed that the suspect, believed to be a business partner of the deceased, invited her to his home when a heated argument started.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were arguing seriously. But no one knew what happened next. When people came later, she was already in a pool of her own blood. Mayor had fled the scene\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>As news of the alleged murder spread, angry youths took to the streets in protest, demanding justice and calling on security agencies to apprehend the suspect immediately.<\/p>\n<p>The tension in the area prompted a swift response from the police, who have since cordoned off the crime scene and launched a manhunt for the Mayor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA battle axe and a hammer were allegedly found in the crime scene, including the victim\u2019s POS machine and scattered naira notes. These could be the instruments with which he inflicted fatal wounds on the unsuspecting woman\u201d Police source confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the remains of Miss Happy have been deposited at an undisclosed morgue pending autopsy, while investigations continue.<\/p>\n<p>President General of Owheologbo Community said the incident was worrisome and has called for calm, urging residents to assist law enforcement with any useful information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not who we are as a people. We must work with the police to ensure this evil does not go unpunished. There is sadness in the community, and in the family of the victim.
