Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The home\u2010based Super Eagles suffered a disappointing 1\u20100 defeat to defending champions Senegal in their opening fixture at the 2024 African Nations Championship on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Both teams struggled to gain control in the opening minutes, with Nigeria edging possession.<\/p>\n

Tochukwu Michael received the first yellow card of the game in the sixth minute for a rash tackle.<\/p>\n

The Home Eagles registered their first shot on target in the 21st minute, with Sikiru Alimi\u2019s tame effort comfortably saved by the Senegalese goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

Captain Junior Nduka was cautioned three minutes later for a rough challenge.<\/p>\n

Nigeria dominated the early stages of the second half, but Senegal stood firm at the back.<\/p>\n

It was Senegal who took the lead through Christian Kobi 15 minutes from time.<\/p>\n

The Eagles will face Sudan in their second Group D game at the Amman Stadium, Zanzibar, next Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Congo held Sudan to a 1\u20101 draw in the other Group D fixture.<\/p>\n
