Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Benue State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed serious concern and disappointment regarding the refusal of the State House of Assembly to acknowledge and act upon the governor\u2019s correspondence regarding the nomination of commissioners.<\/p>\n

The party said the troubling situation has sadly become a characteristic signature of Governor Alia\u2019s misgovernance.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Saturday, the Publicity Secretary of the party, Tim Nyor, said the incident highlights a chilling trend of executive recklessness that seeks to bully, undermine, and suppress the vital legislative arm of governance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is profoundly shameful that our governance has devolved into a scenario where the spirit of collaboration and respect between the executive and legislative branches is absent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current actions of Governor Alia reflect an alarming authoritarianism that is unbecoming of a democratic leader.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a healthy democracy, it is imperative for the executive to recognize the critical role of the legislature, not only as a partner in governance but as an essential representative of the people\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call upon Governor Alia to demonstrate greater tolerance for dissent, to embrace plural perspectives, and to engage constructively with all stakeholders in governance.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said true leadership requires an openness to dialogue and collaboration.<\/p>\n

Nyor said it is now more important than ever for the governor to cultivate a spirit of inclusivity rather than intimidation.<\/p>\n

He said the PDP vehemently opposes these unfortunate excesses of power that not only undermine the principles of democracy but also jeopardize the welfare of our state.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge all members of the House of Assembly and the wider public to remain steadfast in upholding the values of democratic governance and to resist any attempts at usurpation of authority.\u201d<\/p>\n
