Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has disclosed why the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, pledged to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.<\/p>\n

Dalung, while speaking on Trust TV on Sunday, pointed out that the pledge was not tied to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress, ADC.<\/p>\n

The ex-minister explained that it was rooted in Obi\u2019s personal conviction about governance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea of single term has nothing to do with coalition, it is just a general conviction of Peter Obi cos I have engage him on it and he told me \u2018what has destroyed our democracy is the issue of second term\u2019 and he believes that a single term is enough for a person to make impact, whatever you want to do you do it.<\/p>\n

\u201cLeaders are easily distracted with second term. Immediately the first year, the second year, governance is easily abandoned and all you could hear is plans and preparation for the second term,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST reports that Obi had recently reiterated his promise to serve for four years if elected Nigeria\u2019s president in 2027.<\/p>\n

According to the former Anambra governor, he does not need to spend eight years to turn the country\u2019s fortunes around.<\/p>\n

The single-term proposal of the Labour Party\u2019s 2023 presidential candidate has been a major talking point in Nigeria\u2019s political space in recent weeks, as critics claimed he is desperate to lead Nigeria, while supporters praised him for reiterating his commitment to fixing the country.<\/p>\n
