{"id":173767,"date":"2025-08-12T15:48:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T14:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/nba-offers-legal-aid-for-comfort-emmanson-flight-ban"},"modified":"2025-08-12T17:04:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T16:04:23","slug":"nba-offers-legal-aid-for-comfort-emmanson-flight-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/nba-offers-legal-aid-for-comfort-emmanson-flight-ban","title":{"rendered":"NBA Offers Legal Aid for Comfort Emmanson Flight Ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has condemned the treatment of Ms. Comfort Emmanson over an incident aboard an Ibom Air flight, describing it as a violation of her right to dignity.<\/p>\n<p>The NBA in the same vein pledged to provide Emmanson with pro bono legal support to seek redress, insisting that \u201crespect for human dignity and the rule of law must never be compromised\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed by its President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, and General Secretary, Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, the NBA criticised Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria, AON, for imposing a lifetime ban on Emmanson without a fair hearing.<\/p>\n<p>According to the NBA, Emmanson was \u201cforcibly removed from the aircraft, stripped of her clothing in public, and humiliated\u201d with the incident filmed and shared online.<\/p>\n<p>The association maintained that the conduct was degrading, unlawful, and \u201ca grave affront to the rule of law and human dignity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The NBA also referred to video footage allegedly showing an Ibom Air hostess preventing Emmanson from leaving the aircraft, which it said could amount to false imprisonment and may have escalated the situation.<\/p>\n<p>It called for an independent investigation by relevant authorities before any disciplinary action is taken.<\/p>\n<p>On the lifetime ban, the NBA argued that only the statutory aviation regulator has the authority to suspend or restrict a passenger\u2019s right to fly, not private associations or individual operators.<\/p>\n<p>The association further condemned the circulation of unedited footage exposing Emmanson\u2019s nudity, describing it as a criminal invasion of privacy.
