Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Armed bandits loyal to notorious kingpin Bello Turji have abducted 16 residents and killed one person in a fresh attack on Garki village, Sokoto State.<\/p>\n

The incident was made known by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, in a post on his X handle on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Makama stated that the assailants, led by a top Turji lieutenant known as Kallamu, stormed the community on Tuesday evening, shooting sporadically to instil fear.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey came in large numbers, took away 16 people, killed one man, and rustled several livestock. They also shot three people who are now receiving treatment at a hospital in Sokoto,\u201d a resident said.<\/p>\n

The attack comes amid ongoing claims of peace talks between Turji\u2019s camp and some government mediators.<\/p>\n

Makama disclosed that security sources say the latest assault points to the unreliability of the gang\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cBello Turji has repeatedly used so-called peace talks as a cover to regroup, resupply, and expand his influence. He cannot be trusted because every time there\u2019s dialogue, his men continue to attack, abduct, and kill,\u201d said security sources.<\/p>\n

The source added that intelligence reports show Turji\u2019s network is still active across the Isa, Sabon Birni, and Goronyo axes, with many of his fighters engaged in cross-border trafficking between Nigeria and Niger Republic.<\/p>\n
