Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Plateau State House of Assembly has vehemently kicked against a proposed relocation of the headquarters of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) from Jos, the state capital, warning that the move would have far-reaching socio-economic and historical consequences for the state.<\/p>\n

In a motion raised by the member representing Qua\u2019an-Pan South Constituency, Hon. Prof. Theodore Bala Maiyaki (SAN), during plenary on Thursday under a Matter of Urgent Public Importance, the Assembly called on both the state and the Federal Government to immediately halt any plans to move the agency\u2019s headquarters.<\/p>\n

In the motion, Prof. Maiyaki, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, emphasized that relocating the ITF headquarters to another state would strip Plateau of a major federal presence, as well as undermine the economic activities tied to the institution, which would ultimately lead to job losses and erode the historical identity and pride associated with the ITF\u2019s establishment in Jos.<\/p>\n

While addressing the House on the need to retain the ITF headquarters in Jos, Prof. Maiyaki warned that ongoing training programmes and long-standing partnerships nurtured in the state over decades would be severely disrupted.<\/p>\n

He noted that the ITF is not just a federal institution but a legacy in the state, and that its continued presence in Jos is not only a matter of fairness and equity but also a recognition of the state\u2019s role in national development.<\/p>\n

He, therefore, urged his colleagues to rise with one voice to safeguard that heritage and protect the economic interests of the people.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker also called on the Assembly to pass a resolution mandating the state government to liaise with the Federal Government, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and other stakeholders to ensure the ITF headquarters remains in Jos.<\/p>\n
