{"id":174567,"date":"2025-08-15T19:43:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T18:43:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/nnpp-accuses-inec-of-undermining-rule-of-law"},"modified":"2025-08-15T20:42:55","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T19:42:55","slug":"nnpp-accuses-inec-of-undermining-rule-of-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/nnpp-accuses-inec-of-undermining-rule-of-law","title":{"rendered":"NNPP Accuses INEC of Undermining Rule of Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to upload the names of its newly elected national executives, alleging deliberate defiance of court rulings and administrative negligence.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released Friday by the party\u2019s National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, the NNPP expressed frustration over INEC\u2019s delay, noting it has disrupted party operations and hindered preparations for upcoming state and national elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NNPP is gravely concerned and utterly disappointed by INEC\u2019s delay in complying with binding judicial pronouncements that unequivocally recognised Dr. Agbo Major as the authentic National Chairman and myself as National Secretary,\u201d Olaposi said.<\/p>\n<p>The party recalled a valid judgment delivered by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on April 3, 2025 (Suit No: FCT\/HC\/CV\/5518\/2024), and another from the Abia State High Court, affirming the legitimacy of its new leadership following a court-ordered national convention in March.<\/p>\n<p>Despite three formal reminders\u2014dated April 11, April 14, and a final notice on July 30\u2014INEC has failed to act, the party said, accusing the commission of enabling confusion within the party by allowing expelled members to continue laying claim to its leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis inaction by INEC has emboldened disgruntled elements, including our expelled 2023 presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, to make misleading and provocative statements under the NNPP banner,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>The party condemned what it described as \u201cunfounded allegations\u201d made by Kwankwaso and members of his defunct Kwankwasiya movement, particularly accusations against the Federal Government on northern marginalization.<\/p>\n<p>NNPP warned that INEC\u2019s failure to act threatens Nigeria\u2019s democratic stability and risks damaging public confidence in the electoral process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocracy cannot survive in Nigeria if those charged with protecting it continue to undermine honour and integrity,\u201d Olaposi said.
