{"id":174720,"date":"2025-08-17T22:01:56","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T21:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/by-election-why-we-didnt-do-well-adc"},"modified":"2025-08-17T23:13:32","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T22:13:32","slug":"by-election-why-we-didnt-do-well-adc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/parties\/by-election-why-we-didnt-do-well-adc","title":{"rendered":"By-election: Why we didn\u2019t do well \u2013 ADC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has attributed its poor performance in Saturday\u2019s by-elections to widespread violence, vote buying, and irregularities allegedly perpetrated under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the exercise was marred by incidents that undermined the credibility of the polls.<\/p>\n<p>The ADC alleged that in some states, about 300 armed thugs were arrested on election day, while several polling units were cancelled due to ballot box snatching and voter intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>It also cited reports of vote buying, including the arrest of a suspect with N25.9 million in Kaduna and cases where election officials were implicated in inducements.<\/p>\n<p>The party further expressed concern over the failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, in some states and questioned the competence and sincerity of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese by-elections are a dress rehearsal for 2027.
