Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal Government has vowed to introduce reciprocal actions against United States citizens applying for Nigerian visas.<\/p>\n

This is in response to the new US regulations requiring applicants to disclose their social media history and other online activities.<\/p>\n

In response, Nigeria\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Kimiebi Ebienfa, stated that the country would readily impose the same requirements on American visa applicants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware of the development. I think it\u2019s part of the new measures they informed us about before implementation.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn things of this nature, the best we can do is to carry out reciprocal action. Some people from the US might want to apply for a visa, and we will adopt the same measures,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ebienfa noted that the government plans to hold an inter-agency meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to determine the most comprehensive response to the new US visa regulations.<\/p>\n

He added \u201cThe government will have an inclusive meeting that will involve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior and also our National Intelligence Agency, NIA.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, the stakeholders that are involved will have a meeting and agree on our best way to respond to it holistically.\u201d<\/p>\n

It could be recalled that just recently the United States (US) introduced stricter visa requirements for Nigerian applicants, now mandating full disclosure of their social media activities over the past five years.<\/p>\n

It said failure to comply may result in visa denial, and in severe cases, a lifetime ban from entering the United States.<\/p>\n
