Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Benue State House of Assembly has denied passing any bill against love and romance in the state.<\/p>\n

Chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr Alfred Berger (APC\/Makurdi North), made this clarification on while speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Makurdi, the state capital.<\/p>\n

Berger called on the public to disregard what he described as fake news making the rounds.<\/p>\n

There was a purported bill making the rounds on social media that the house passed a bill banning the practice of love and romance in Benue.<\/p>\n

However, the information committee chairman said that such a bill was not before the house, adding that it had not even been contemplated by lawmakers.<\/p>\n

According to him, the manner in which the originator of the fake news wrote the purported bill was far different from the way and manner in which the assembly couched her bills.<\/p>\n

He further explained that the fabrication was the figment and imagination of the author, appreciating Governor Hyacinth Alia for acting on the resolutions of the assembly.<\/p>\n

The chairman pointed out that the recommended suspension of six months each for the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Dr Grace Adagba; the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr Maxwell Ogiri; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr Michael Uper.<\/p>\n

He, however, stated that the house recommended six months\u2019 suspension for the appointees, but the governor reduced it to one month each.<\/p>\n

He said that the house was not bothered about the length of the suspension, but what mattered to the house was the fact that the affected appointees vacate their offices while the assembly investigates them.<\/p>\n
