Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed worry over the failure to collect over 360,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Kano.<\/p>\n

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango, disclosed this on Saturday when he received members of a committee set up by the Kano State Government to boost awareness about the ongoing voter registration exercise.<\/p>\n

The committee chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya is expected to sensitize residents on the importance of collecting their PVCs and participating fully in elections.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Zango urged the committee to intensify its campaign, noting that all uncollected cards are still in INEC\u2019s custody.<\/p>\n

He praised the state government for setting up the body, adding that its diverse membership and leadership under Waiya would help drive the exercise successfully.<\/p>\n

He also assured the committee of INEC\u2019s cooperation in mobilizing eligible voters for both registration and collection of PVCs.<\/p>\n

Speaking for Kano government, the state information Commissioner, Comrade Waiya explained that the committee was established by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to engage all groups in the state, including opposition parties, to encourage broad participation.<\/p>\n

He appealed to INEC to consider increasing the number of polling units in Kano to ease congestion during elections.<\/p>\n
